The SHDSL (short for Single-pair
High-speed DSL) is a symmetrical DSL for the Internet connection network. It was
standardized in 2002. It brings together technology HDSL and HDSL2 and SDSL. The
transfer rate is identical for download and upload and may vary from
- 192 Kb / s to 2.3 Mb / s with 2 wires (a pair).
- 384 Kb / s to 4.6 Mb / s with 4 wires (two pairs).
This solution uses all connection
bandwidth of the telephone line. Using the phone at the same time is not
possible with the SHDSL technology, but with digital connections PABX and Voice
over IP. Indeed, splitters are not necessary.
The particularity of a SHDSL line is to be
configured for a fixed rate guarantees (up to 2.3 Mb / second) determined by the ISP
under the contract. In the case where the modem can not achieve this speed
(disturbances on the telephon line), there is normally no connection, although some
equipment suppliers provide a speed autodetection by the internal modem.
The maximum distance is 5 km on a single copper pair.
