NTLDR stands for NT Loader. This program manages
the boot hard disks on computers running Windows NT, 2000, XP and 2003. His first
job is to load drivers and other information material to boot NT. The following
sequence is loading the file type (NTFS
or FAT), then just reading the boot.ini file which allows to use multiple
operating systems simultaneously. Last used by NTLDR to boot Windows itself,
starting the program NTdetect.com who reads the BIOS setup and the bus types (PCI, AGP, PCI Express, ...) and time
/ date.
