DEP (Windows protection)
The DEP (Data Execution Prevention - DEP data)
functionality is installed in Windows
XP (SP2), Windows
2003 SP1, VISTA, 2008 server and Seven which protects the installation of malicious code in the
Computer Ram memory areas
reserved for non-executable code. This technology is based on software
technology (implanted in Windows) and hardware technology implemented in current
processors such as Athlon
64, Opteron and Phenom (called NX - No Execute in AMD processor), Intel LGA775 socket (called XD or Active Bits) ... In hardware, processors
compatible prevent execution of program code in memory areas marked as reserved
for data. XP SP2 also reduces operations management mechanisms exceptions Windows.
If the DEP hardware is compatible with your
processor, except the window above the poster as marked in red.
The
DEP does not check the installation of software (including virus, spyware, trojan,
adware...), It only
monitors the software installed on the computer and verify the use of system
memory by them. When using a prohibited zone, Windows automatically closes the
program tries to access it. There is no checking of program type, all software
is automatically stopped.
Programs entirely correct can be stopped, making
their implementation impossible. This feature sometimes causes the boot the
following message: "To help protect your computer, Windows has closed the
following program".
If this type of error, first check your computer
with a Anti-Virus
and an updated anti-spyware (Ad-aware,
Spybot, ...). If the software is actually a standard program and the absence of
risk, you have two ways to permanently remove this error message: authorize an
exception to this software or turn off DEP (not recommended).
1.
Allowing an exception
If the program accesses memory is correct, you can
delete that message by allowing the program to use this restricted area in RAM.
In the Control Panel, select "System".
Under the Advanced tab, click on the Settings button in Performance.
Select the third tab (DEP data).
By default, the checkbox "Turn on DEP data for
porgramme and Windows services only" is enabled. Select "Turn on DEP
data for all programs and services except those I select."
The list of prohibited programs by DEP appears in
the box below. You still check the box next to the program.
You can also add other programs using the
"Add" button.
This activation requires the redémarage computer.
2.
Disable DEP
Also in the System control panel, select the
Advanced tab again. Click settings but under Startup and Recovery. The following
window appears.
Click the edit button. It will allow you to access
the Windows boot.ini file (hidden file) via NotePad. In terms of story /
noexecute = .... (eg / noexecute = optin / fastdetect), substitute / noexecute =
AlwaysOff.
Save your file and restart leaving your computer.
3. DEP Resume
For reactivate Use the same procedure as
for the reactivation and replace / noexecute = AlwaysOff by /
noexecute = Option.
